Individual Counseling

young Children – ages 2-5

Olivewood works with very young children who have experienced trauma. We also work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder or who are struggling to comply with rules at home or daycare.

Olivewood uses a blend of play and art therapy with a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) component. Olivewood therapists are trained to communicate with children on their developmental level. Therapists use Filial Therapy to create a team approach with parents. Parents and therapists work together to help children become successful.

Children – ages 6-12

Olivewood works with children who are struggling at home or at school. Olivewood teams with parents to address school, peer and home issues. We also work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Olivewood therapists are trained to understand and communicate with children at their developmental level.

Olivewood uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help children develop better problem solving and decision making skills. Our therapists teach social skills, bullying prevention and communication skills that increase children’s abilities to be successful with peers at schools, activities and casual play. Therapists may blend CBT with Behavioral Modification strategies to help children follow the rules at school and at home. Therapists use Filial Therapy to create a team approach with parents. Parents and therapists work together to improve family life and help children meet their potential.

Teenagers – ages 13-18

Adolescents struggle to develop their identity and meet important academic and life challenges. Many young people need help during this stage of life. Olivewood treats adolescents with depression, anxiety, peer issues, and family problems.

Olivewood has gifted counselors who can reach young people struggling with adolescent issues. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), our counselors can help teenagers make better choices, develop healthy self-esteem and avoid risky behaviors.

Adults

Olivewood Counseling has experienced therapists who can work with people during overwhelming life transitions or treat those who suffer with serious and persistent mental health issues. Olivewood’s therapists use interventions that have been tested to be effective such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT). Olivewood always offers a respectful and understanding approach to helping people find the answers to their problems.

SENIORs

Americans are living longer. Unfortunately our senior years are not automatically easy. Seniors face health, financial, and social issues unique to them as well as the normal stresses. Olivewood is able to offer experienced care to mature people facing hard challenges and the anxiety and depression those difficulties can create.

Couples Counseling

If relationship issues are impacting your life, Olivewood can offer skills to improve communication, build trust and overcome challenges. Olivewood can help couples learn to parent, plan and play together. When relationships cannot be saved Olivewood can help people move on in while limiting the negative impact on children.

Co-Parenting Counseling

Raising children when your relationship has ended is one of the greatest stresses a family can face. Olivewood’s staff can offer support and assistance navigating this difficult time. Co-parenting is very different than couples counseling. The focus is not on repairing the relationship between the parents, but rather forging a plan in the child’s best interest. The idea of co-parenting may seem uncomfortable, but having rules and clear expectations makes reforming your family much easier for the adults, and especially for the children.

Family Counseling

Olivewood offers services to help families improve dynamics. Blended families can overcome resistance to new family units and improve relationships between family members. Families can learn effective communication and avoid repeating negative family patterns. Olivewood can help families overcome cultural differences and learn to celebrate diversity in their family.

Grief Counseling

Grief can be overwhelming. Loss can lead to depression and anxiety. Some people struggle with guilt and regret during mourning. Olivewood can help those experiencing grief work through the stages of grief and discover internal resiliency to allow for a new beginning.

Modalities

cognitive Behavioral Therapy–cBT

CBT helps people understand the errors in their thought patterns. CBT helps people recognize the way negative or distorted thoughts impact their emotions and behavior. By helping people change their thoughts, CBT improves emotions and gives people a tool to control their behavior. CBT can help you create the life you want to live.

Dialectic Behavior Therapy–DBT

DBT helps people control their emotional responses. People with issues such as self-harm benefit from this intense therapy which focuses on bringing thoughts and emotions into harmony. It explores the problems of living completely in our emotional world, disregarding reason or living in our heads without paying attention to what our heart wants.

Eco-systemic structural family therapy–ESFT

ESFT is a specialized therapy that focuses on improving relationships in the family by breaking negative patterns.
Emphasis is put on promoting parent-child attachment,
emotional regulation, co-caregiver alliance, and parental
executive functioning.

Filial therapy

Our clinicians team with parents in Filial Therapy.
The clinician offers parents specific strategies.
The therapist teaches these techniques in sessions
and the parents implement during the week. Parents can bring others into the process including grandparents, teachers, and other caregivers.
